We care!

At Stufvenäs, we are deeply committed to nurturing and preserving the natural beauty that surrounds us. We understand the importance of making wise investments – not only financially, but also in terms of environmental and social sustainability.

Maintaining flexibility and realism

We recognize that sustainability sometimes means balancing ideals with realistic needs. While we strive to adhere to our four S’s, there are times when we must make exceptions, such as with our coffee and wine. But in those cases, it’s important to choose products that offer something special in return, like a good feeling in your stomach. This flexibility allows us to maintain our high standards while being pragmatic in our choices.

QUALITY & SUSTAINABILITY

Thoughtful and Future-Oriented Interior Design

Our commitment to sustainability is also reflected in our interior design choices. By selecting quality products from the local area, we not only strengthen the local economy but also ensure that every element in our environment reflects our values of quality and sustainability.

At Stufvenäs, we are dedicated to a future where sustainability is not an option, but a fundamental part of everything we do. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a more sustainable and responsible operation, and we welcome our guests and partners to join us on this exciting journey.

GROWN IN BRAZIL, ROASTED IN KALMAR

Brazilian Grown, Kalmar Roasted

We know how important coffee is for many. For all of us who can’t think straight before the first cup of coffee in the morning. That’s why we make sure there’s always a cup of truly great coffee for our guests.

That’s why we’re so happy to serve you a tasteful, natural, and sustainable coffee. Produced from coffee cherries grown with love and care on Brazilian volcanic slopes by Luiz Paulo, imported and roasted by Balck Coffee. A unique coffee available only with us, which will help you make really good decisions at your conference.

And for every cup you drink, you help us, Balck Coffee, and Luiz Paulo to a better future for coffee growers and future coffee drinkers!

Our coffee comes from Luiz and his son Gustavo, who grow coffee on the Fazenda Santa de Izabel farm in Brazil as second-generation coffee farmers. The coffee is then roasted in Kalmar by Sebastian Balck.

The coffee is grown on volcanic slopes that offer unique conditions for coffee cultivation. The mineral-rich soil, with rainforest reserves around the plantations, creates a unique biotope that results in high-quality, long-term sustainable coffee.

Luiz has actively chosen to grow only specialty coffee without pesticides. The coffee they grow thrives in volcanic soil high up on slopes, which means the coffee must be hand-picked. In Brazil, this is usually done by machine, and once again, Luiz and Gustavo stand out from industrial production by hand-picking all their coffee. This results in a more selective quality, and through the slopes combined with the fertile volcanic soil and parts of the rainforest serving as shade trees, they produce a unique coffee.

Powerful, sweet, and creamy with low acidity, it is perfect as espresso or a darker filter coffee.

Additionally, Luiz takes great social responsibility, with 30 families working and depending on the 33 hectares of plantations. Sixteen hectares are also Atlantic rainforest.

BIODIVERSITY

Stufvenäs Honey

We care about nature and our biodiversity. There is a shortage of pollinating insects in Swedish nature. One-third of all the food we humans eat depends on pollination. Pollination produces more flowers and can help endangered plants survive. It also yields larger harvests of fruits, vegetables, and berries. Not only here with us but also with our neighbors and in the surrounding nature.

Today, half of the honey we eat in Sweden is imported. Now we can offer our guests our own honey, with the taste of the various flowers, trees, and plants in our beautiful surroundings. Stufvenäs Honey also has another great value besides its taste, it finances the honey bees’ most important ecosystem service when they pollinate our crops and wild nature. Therefore, it is important that we all care for the bees so that the number of bees and bee colonies increases in Sweden.

Did you know this about bees?

A queen lays about 2000 eggs a day during the summer. In a beehive, there can be up to 50,000 bees. A beehive produces about 40 kg of honey. A bee lives for about 60 days in the summer. Eventually, they can no longer fly back to the hive because their wings have become worn out. Winter bees live longer, but that’s because they stay still and slow down their metabolism.

Bees can communicate with each other. Through the bee dance, they can indicate in which direction and how far away flowers worth visiting are located. A bee can fly 2-3 km from the hive to collect food and find its way back home. All the bees in the hive have the same mother, but can have different fathers. To gather nectar for one kilogram of honey, bees visit 6-8 million flowers.

Authenticity in every bite

Made by Stufvenäs

To make it easier for our guests to identify products that are made from scratch with love and high-quality ingredients, we have created the label ‘Made by Stufvenäs’. This symbol stands for authenticity, craftsmanship, and the use of ingredients that reflect our dedication to quality and sustainability.

CLOSE & DEAR

Close by Stufvenäs

In line with our commitment to support the local community and reduce our environmental impact, we have created the label ‘Close by Stufvenäs’. This label is a proud declaration of our choice to prioritize products and ingredients from the local area, following our philosophy of the four S’s – Stufvenäs, Södermöre, Småland, and Sweden.

TAP MARKED WATER

Our choice of water

We have tap-marked water at Conference, Spa & Restaurant. We take a stand for a better environment by serving and drinking fresh, healthy, and locally produced tap water from our own well instead of bottled water.

No packaging means no waste, no transport, and no emissions! Tap-marked is a national sustainability label for businesses that choose tap water instead of bottled water.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORK

Our environmental & sustainability strategy

The UN has set 17 environmental and sustainability goals to be achieved by 2030. At Stufvenäs Gästgifveri, we have incorporated these goals into our environmental strategy and are doing what we can to help achieve these goals worldwide by 2030.

This is an ongoing process that continuously develops Stufvenäs Gästgifveri into a more sustainable company where decisions are made with an environmental focus.

Our goal is to be certified by Green Key by 2023, a leading international eco-label for establishments in the tourism industry with more than 3000 eco-labeled establishments in over 60 countries worldwide. Green Key is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and supported by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Together with Green Key, we will reduce our carbon footprint and work towards new environmental goals.

Environmental & sustainability goals

We contribute to reducing poverty both locally, nationally, and internationally by donating the proceeds from an event at least once a year to an organization that fights poverty, such as Shelterbox or Stadsmissionen.

We are happy to help those in need in our immediate vicinity. All leftover Christmas food from our Christmas buffets is donated to those who organize Christmas celebrations for the lonely and socially vulnerable. We work to reduce food waste and buy locally as much as possible.

We work daily to spread the message to our guests and employees about the importance of good health and well-being. We have also created an environment for focusing on individual health. We want sustainable employees over time. Our employees receive wellness grants.

Our goal is to be an attractive workplace where our employees have the opportunity to develop through skill enhancement both internally and externally.

In our organization, everyone has the right to speak regardless of position. We strive for a balanced workforce between women and men as well as different ages.

We have our own water well, but we encourage our guests to use water sparingly to protect our shared groundwater. We are tap-marked and only serve tap water to our guests.

For us, a vibrant rural area is important. A rural area where companies like ours can grow and thrive sustainably.

We aim to become Sweden’s best workplace! With freedom under responsibility, attentiveness, communication, varied tasks, and decent wages, we create good growth together. We follow the HRF Visita agreement

We continuously strive to find new solutions, more sustainable practices, and better suppliers to make our business more environmentally friendly.

With us, everyone is equal, both guests and employees. We do not differentiate based on gender, ethnicity, age, or background. Everyone is treated equally and with respect whether you are a king, foreigner, child, or farmer.

For us, a vibrant rural area is important. A rural area where companies like ours can grow and thrive sustainably.

We use as few disposable items as possible. We have chosen an eco-friendly skincare line in the spa and in the hotel rooms.

We support and promote staycations. We strive to become such a popular destination that our guests choose to vacation in Sweden instead of flying abroad

As a neighbor to Kalmarsund and the Baltic Sea, we are constantly reminded of the poor state of our oceans. This makes us even more aware of making the right choices, from sourcing fish for the restaurant to avoiding plastic products.

A functioning ecosystem in our nature is essential for our existence. Therefore, we source our ingredients based on the season and preferably from organic producers. We have acquired bees to promote pollination, biodiversity, Swedish honey, and food supply.

We stand for the equal value of all people, regardless of skin color, religion, sexual orientation, or origin. If everyone accepts each other despite our differences, the world will become a much more peaceful and wonderful place to live.

We choose suppliers with environmental certification. Alone is not strong. Not even sometimes. Together we must change the world, the climate, and the way we live. With combined efforts, we can achieve the goals.

We are in. Are you?
