At Stufvenäs, we are deeply committed to nurturing and preserving the natural beauty that surrounds us. We understand the importance of making wise investments – not only financially, but also in terms of environmental and social sustainability.
Our commitment extends from carefully selecting quality products that stand the test of time to ensuring our working conditions are healthy and fair, promoting long-term employment and job satisfaction.
We recognize that sustainability sometimes means balancing ideals with realistic needs. While we strive to adhere to our four S’s, there are times when we must make exceptions, such as with our coffee and wine. But in those cases, it’s important to choose products that offer something special in return, like a good feeling in your stomach. This flexibility allows us to maintain our high standards while being pragmatic in our choices.
Our commitment to sustainability is also reflected in our interior design choices. By selecting quality products from the local area, we not only strengthen the local economy but also ensure that every element in our environment reflects our values of quality and sustainability.
At Stufvenäs, we are dedicated to a future where sustainability is not an option, but a fundamental part of everything we do. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a more sustainable and responsible operation, and we welcome our guests and partners to join us on this exciting journey.
We know how important coffee is for many. For all of us who can’t think straight before the first cup of coffee in the morning. That’s why we make sure there’s always a cup of truly great coffee for our guests.
That’s why we’re so happy to serve you a tasteful, natural, and sustainable coffee. Produced from coffee cherries grown with love and care on Brazilian volcanic slopes by Luiz Paulo, imported and roasted by Balck Coffee. A unique coffee available only with us, which will help you make really good decisions at your conference.
And for every cup you drink, you help us, Balck Coffee, and Luiz Paulo to a better future for coffee growers and future coffee drinkers!
Our coffee comes from Luiz and his son Gustavo, who grow coffee on the Fazenda Santa de Izabel farm in Brazil as second-generation coffee farmers. The coffee is then roasted in Kalmar by Sebastian Balck.
The coffee is grown on volcanic slopes that offer unique conditions for coffee cultivation. The mineral-rich soil, with rainforest reserves around the plantations, creates a unique biotope that results in high-quality, long-term sustainable coffee.
Luiz has actively chosen to grow only specialty coffee without pesticides. The coffee they grow thrives in volcanic soil high up on slopes, which means the coffee must be hand-picked. In Brazil, this is usually done by machine, and once again, Luiz and Gustavo stand out from industrial production by hand-picking all their coffee. This results in a more selective quality, and through the slopes combined with the fertile volcanic soil and parts of the rainforest serving as shade trees, they produce a unique coffee.
Powerful, sweet, and creamy with low acidity, it is perfect as espresso or a darker filter coffee.
Additionally, Luiz takes great social responsibility, with 30 families working and depending on the 33 hectares of plantations. Sixteen hectares are also Atlantic rainforest.
We care about nature and our biodiversity. There is a shortage of pollinating insects in Swedish nature. One-third of all the food we humans eat depends on pollination. Pollination produces more flowers and can help endangered plants survive. It also yields larger harvests of fruits, vegetables, and berries. Not only here with us but also with our neighbors and in the surrounding nature.
Today, half of the honey we eat in Sweden is imported. Now we can offer our guests our own honey, with the taste of the various flowers, trees, and plants in our beautiful surroundings. Stufvenäs Honey also has another great value besides its taste, it finances the honey bees’ most important ecosystem service when they pollinate our crops and wild nature. Therefore, it is important that we all care for the bees so that the number of bees and bee colonies increases in Sweden.
A queen lays about 2000 eggs a day during the summer. In a beehive, there can be up to 50,000 bees. A beehive produces about 40 kg of honey. A bee lives for about 60 days in the summer. Eventually, they can no longer fly back to the hive because their wings have become worn out. Winter bees live longer, but that’s because they stay still and slow down their metabolism.
Bees can communicate with each other. Through the bee dance, they can indicate in which direction and how far away flowers worth visiting are located. A bee can fly 2-3 km from the hive to collect food and find its way back home. All the bees in the hive have the same mother, but can have different fathers. To gather nectar for one kilogram of honey, bees visit 6-8 million flowers.
To make it easier for our guests to identify products that are made from scratch with love and high-quality ingredients, we have created the label ‘Made by Stufvenäs’. This symbol stands for authenticity, craftsmanship, and the use of ingredients that reflect our dedication to quality and sustainability.
In line with our commitment to support the local community and reduce our environmental impact, we have created the label ‘Close by Stufvenäs’. This label is a proud declaration of our choice to prioritize products and ingredients from the local area, following our philosophy of the four S’s – Stufvenäs, Södermöre, Småland, and Sweden.
We have tap-marked water at Conference, Spa & Restaurant. We take a stand for a better environment by serving and drinking fresh, healthy, and locally produced tap water from our own well instead of bottled water.
No packaging means no waste, no transport, and no emissions! Tap-marked is a national sustainability label for businesses that choose tap water instead of bottled water.
We are environmentally certified with Green Key. We aim to deliver the highest positive guest experience with minimal negative environmental impact. We actively work with environmental and sustainability issues through Green Key’s comprehensive criteria.
